Bed wetting is something that many children have to go through and, eventually, outgrow with both age and experience. However, what many parents don’t realize is that there could be more going on than just a mere case of not being able to make it to the toilet in time or drinking too much water. There are a number of causes that could be linked to children wetting their beds from something as complex as a urinary tract issue to something a little simpler like fear.

It helps to take the time to figure these things out. Did you and your family recently suffer a break-in? Sure, maybe no one got hurt and you purchased a home security Los Angeles system the following day, but such an event can have a traumatic effect on a child and one of our natural reactions when faced with overwhelming fear is to urinate. If, however, you feel like your child’s situation might be physiological there are plenty of non-invasive procedures that can be done to solve this.

Just remember that wetting the bed is all part of growing up – it’s something to overcome and every child has their own individual growth rate. You should be patient and have understanding.

Getting your children to sleep through the night is something which occurs during the first few months, and typically you have smooth sailing after that. However, even once a child becomes potty trained and is not having accidents during the day, it is possible that nighttime bed wetting may occur. When this happens, you need to address the issue in just the right manner to make sure you do not upset the child, nor discourage them from working on better bladder control during the night. Once you have ruled out a medical issue for the bed wetting, it is best to handle the issue when it occurs in a calm and soothing tone of voice. Most likely your child will come and wake you up to let you know they wet the bed. You need to change their clothes, put on a new training or nighttime diaper and change the sheets on the bed. Calmly place you child back in to the dry bed and tell them goodnight. Avoid yelling ,screaming or making fun of the child is the best way to help the child break the habit, as the majority of children who wet the bed at night do so as a stress release or have insecurity issues regarding other things.

Our daughter was “day” potty-trained by her second birthday. However, a year and a half later she was still soaking through a training diaper, or her sheets, every night. The bedwetting phase was long and frustrating, but we picked up great perspective and a few tips along the way.

1. Be flexible.
Bedwetting is a developmental milestone and even sensible strategies will fail if your child is not ready. If you child is not making progress, it may be time to take a break.Didn’t catch that? This explains it.

2. Create Success.
Offer a reward every time your child wakes up with dry pants. Stickers, candy, and special privileges can provide the motivation your child needs to reach her larger goal.

3. Remain Positive.
It’s fun to celebrate success, but it is just as important to de-emphasize setbacks. When you child wets the bed, resist the urge to show your frustration. Take a deep breath, help her clean up, and empower her to try again.

At times it felt like our daughter would wet her bed forever, but at 3.5 years old she was suddenly able to stay dry all night, every night. We celebrated with a trip to the toy store and never looked back.

Bedwetting is a condition that parents worry about. They sometimes do not know why their children wet their bed. The children may not know either. There are several causes as to why children may wet their bed. These causes should be investigated by the parents and children together.
One of the reasons that children wet the bed is stress. Problems at school or at home may weigh on the child and they do not know how to handle them. Parents should talk to the child’s teacher to find out if there is anything that has changed at school. Bullying is one of the leading causes of stress among children. If this is the case, the school needs to be informed so disciplinary action can be taken. Parents should also talk to the child about how they feel with the life they have at home. Something may be bothering them that they cannot express.
Bedwetting could be a possible medical concern that parents need to discuss with their pediatrician. Boys often wet the bed more than girls because of problems with the urethra. They do not wake themselves up in time to go to the bathroom so they end up wetting the bed.

As children transition from wearing diapers to being potty trained, the last hurdle is often the ability to stay dry during the hours when they are asleep. There are many factors that contribute to bed wetting and many proactive steps parents can take to ensure successful elimination of bed wetting.

Make sure that your child has limited intake of fluids before bed. Limit drinks and beverages after the dinner meal so that they are not going to bed with a full bladder. You can find a quick rundown here This is a crucial element to eliminating bed wetting. If there are no fluids in the bladder, your child is less likely to wet the bed.

Talk with your child about using the potty in the night as part of the bedtime routine. Ask them what they would do if they woke up in the night and needed to use the potty. This is a helpful tool for parents to use to understand any possible hurdles that may be present.

Leave a night light on in the bathroom. This will help ease any fears the child has about getting out of bed to use the potty in the night.

Many children struggle with nighttime dryness well after being daytime dry. Keep implementing these simple tips, and over time, your child will be able to be dry through the night as well.

Many parents of young children struggle with handling middle of the night cries do to bed wetting. Bed wetting disturbs the entire household. Worst of all, parents feel a sense of helplessness when it comes to helping their child with this difficult phase. In order to effectively help your child you should have some idea of why they are wetting the bed, ideas for prevention, and what to do when it happens. Actually, bed-wetting is common in children five and under.

Bed wetting can be caused by several different things. Some of these things are physical conditions and completely out of your child’s control. An example is immature bladder muscles. The muscles in the bladder are not strong enough to hold urine all night long. Another issue related to age is the signal the bladder sends to the brain to wake up to go to the bathroom. For some children, the signal is strong enough yet. As babies start to develop their bodies produce ADH, known as antidiuretic hormone. This slows down urine production, some children don’t produce enough of the ADH hormone and their bladders cannot handle holding urine for long periods of time. In some children, especially over the age of 6, bed-wetting may be caused by raised levels of stress or emotional instability that manifests physically by bed-wetting.

Some things parents can do to prevent or lessen bed-wetting incidents depend on the cause. If the cause is emotional, talk to your child and discuss whatever it is that is causing them distress. Stop giving your child anything to eat or drink an hour before going to bed, and have them use the restroom right before going to sleep. If the child is older or if it persists, seek a doctor’s care. There is medication available for some instances. Also, bed wetting alarms work well.

The most important thing to remember is never punish or yell at children for wetting the bed. The child is not being lazy and it is not their fault. Do not laugh or tease them. Help them clean up the mess and get back to bed as soon as possible. If it happens often, keep clean sheets and linens close the bed and invest in water proof sheets or a rubber mattress.
